Die RFA zählt zu den vielseitigsten Verfahren zur Analyse der Elementzusammensetzung einer Probe. Dabei wird das Material energiereicher Röntgenstrahlung ausgesetzt, die die charakteristische Fluoreszenzstrahlung der einzelnen chemischen Elemente anregt. Die nachfolgende Auswertung der Ergebnisse basiert auf dem Vergleich mit Standardproben bekannter chemischer Zusammensetzung.
